The member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States signed a treaty on the Economic Union in September, 1993 as part of their collaborative efforts to promote economic and social progress of their nations.
The Inter-State Economic Committee (IEC)/ which is a permanent coordination and executive body of the Economic Union, was established in October, 1994 by the special agreement of the CIS member countries in order to promote the successive movement towards the formation of the Economic Union.
