Mining Equipment, Ore and Mineral Extraction and Processing - 2009


MiningWorld Russia, the International Exhibition for the Mining and Processing of Metals and Minerals, took place in April 2009 in the Crocus Expo, Moscow.


The event was officially supported by:

Over the last 13 years, MININGWORLD RUSSIA has gathered together experts from the leading domestic and foreign companies to discover the latest equipment, technologies, achievements and projects.

The events listed in the business programme complement the exhibition and provide another reason for visitors to come to MiningWorld Russia. During the scientific conference, entitled "Mining Industry: Development Prospects", leading professors from the Moscow State Mining University and representatives of major companies delivered reports on key issues within the industry.

  1. Report by Mr. R. Poderny, Professor of the Moscow State Mining University, Doctor of Engineering and an Active Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, proved particularly popular and generated a heated discussion amongst delegates. The report focussed on the current state of drilling equipment for surface work and its development prospects
  2. Another interesting report by Pr. S. Romanov, Provost for Research at the Moscow State Mining University evaluated the current state and development prospects for raw ferrous materials
  3. Other presentations included: "Advanced Technologies in the field of Semimobile and Mobile Ragging" by Mr. P. Pashko and Mr. Z. Surrey of THYSSENKRUPP FORDERTECHNIK GMBH, "High Performance Equipment for Bulk Cargo Transshipment in Ports. Reshipping and Warehousing" by Mr. E. Potapkin of TissenKruppFerdtechnik GmbH, "The Application of Geostatistics" by Mr. G. Wail and Mr. R. Brown of RWE Power International, RE GmBH, and "The Application of Polymeric and Composite Materials in the Mining Industry and Power Economy" by Mr. A. Pleshivtsev, OAO Avangard

Exhibitors and visitors attended the conference and many noted the importance and relevance of the topics. Conference organisers: Primexpo ltd, Krugozor Expo Travel. With the support of the Moscow State Mining University.


Every year, the business programme adapts to the changing environment in the mining industry. In 2007, the Job Fair was introduced and, in 2008, the Golden Miner competition was launched. 2009's contribution was a new competition amongst mining and geological university graduates.


The competition was organised by Primexpo, the mining internet portal and trade recruiting agency, www.Minerjob.ru, and was supported by Mr. S. Mironov, Chairman of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, the Russian Geological Society and other public and private companies. The main aims of the competition were to promote interaction between universities and mining companies, attract young specialists to the mining industry and provide professional staff for mining companies.


The contest was divided into eight categories:

  1. Geologica; exploration (Geology and mineral deposit search)
  2. Mine surveying
  3. Development (surface mining)
  4. Development (underground mining)
  5. Mineral processing
  6. Management and business economics
  7. Geoecology (Environmental protection)
  8. Special category - The Leader (the highest-rated participant)

Mr. Eugene Farrakhov, Vice President of the Russian Geological Society handed out the awards. He congratulated the participants and read an official letter from Mr. V. Orlov, President of RosGeo. Winners received certificates and prizes, and were given the opportunity to take part in the exhibition's co-located events, meeting representatives of large Russian and international mining companies. The finalists also received gifts from the sponsors: Atlas Kopko and Polus Zoloto. These included books from the Mining Book publisher and a year's subscription to. The Mineral Resource and The Nedropolzovaniye-XXI vek.


An important event during the exhibition was the All-Russian Jobs Fair for the Mining Industry, which was run throughout the exhibition. All companies from Russia and CIS which were interested in recruiting highly-qualified personnel were able to participate in the Job Fair.


On the second day of the exhibition, an evening reception was held at the 'Royal' restaurant. Representatives of official government bodies, exhibitors, organisers andthe media attended the event. During the reception, awards were presented in the following categories.


The winners were awarded with certificates and prizes:

  1. Opportunity to place information in the exhibition's CD catalogue
  2. One-year subscription for 'The Gornaya Promyshlennost' magazine
  3. One-year subscription for 'The Marksheideria and Nedropolzovanie' magazines
  4. Gift from Alfa Montan: Up-to-date Russian-German dictionary on mining
  5. Free publication from 'The Ugol' magazine

Mr. L. Gotis, Director of the Gornaya Kniga publishing house of the Moscow State Mining University, also awarded a special prize to SANDVIK MINING AND CONSTRUCTION FINLAND CORP.
