The outlooks of Food Industry in Azerbaijan
- Azerbaijan has the unique climate potential - 9 climate zones of 11 existing.
- All agrarian spheres are legaly formalized in compliance with world standards. Moreover Azerbaijan outstriped all other CIS countries on some statements and confidently leading on democratization terms of agricultural sector.
- Today the share of private sector in food industry is equaled to 93%.
- Azerbaijan is situated on the Caspian seaside which has more than 50% of world reserve of sturgeons. During last quarter of 2001 there were $2.3 mln. invested in fish-breeding.
- Tea industry is fast growing in Azerbaijan. There were more than $ 10 mln. invested to the tea industry by now. There is production of biotea (which is producing without chemical fertilizers).
- American, French, Dutch businessmen are investing to the development of some agricultural enterprises of the country. There is also big interest to cooperate with Azerbaijan businessmen shown by foreign companies from Russia, Ukraine, Romania, Austria, Estonia, Egypt and many others.
- The joint Azerbaijan-Ukraine Chamber of Commerce created in December 2001. The aim is the intensification of bilateral relations between two countries, increase in turnover, preferable in agricultural sector.
- The Ministry of Economic Development will grant $ 20 mln. for development of some big plants, within them: Ganja caramel plant, Guba tinned food factory, Broiler plant № 1 and others.
- Provided facilities in agriculture. The law project "Tax facilities temporary given for producers of food products" was passed. The document proposes tax exemption for all natural and juridical persons who are working in agricultural products processing from all types of taxation except tax for land. The facilities are given for three years.
- 45% of population remains engaged in agricultural production-more than in any other sector, making it vital to Azerbaijan' future.
