The MITF-2005 has been given the status of an official function by the Government of Moscow. The venue for the fair is the 'Gostiniy Dvor' Exhibition Hall, which is located next to Red Square and the Kremlin and is considered the finest exhibition site in the capital. Gostiniy Dvor' is one of the most beautiful examples of architecture, and was built in the 18th century from a design by the celebrated Italian architect Quarenghi. The overall exhibition area is 12 thousand square m. The MITF-2005 is a unique opportunity to feature Russia, its prospects for tourism and sightseeing, famous Russian hospitality, and also sites reflecting the historical and cultural heritage of the people of the Russian Federation. There were more than 75 thousand visitors to the exhibition who were professionals in the tourism business. The Government of Moscow attaches huge importance to developing the tourist industry. Moscow has long been the visiting card for the whole of Russia. Muscovites try to retain the charm of the old streets and buildings and restore sites of architectural interest, but at the same time they make their city a vibrant one with all the comforts of modern life.
