The first celebration of Hafengeburtstag Hamburg was organized by the Emperor Frederick Barbarrosa on May 7th, 1189. This date is considered to be a birthday of the Hamburg Harbor. The grandest event in the world, devoted to the sea and river vessels, shipping, and navigation is held since then annually. This festivity is accompanied by spectacular fireworks, demonstrations of classical, unique, and unusual vessels.
