Information on the region
Krasnodar Region is one of the most dynamically developing and one of the most important for the country's economy regions.
Profitable transport routes have long been going through the territory of the region, connecting regions of Russia and countries of Europe, Mediterranean basin, Middle East, as well as those of Transcaucasia, Middle Asia and Persian Gulf. Krasnodar Region is rightfully called southern sea gates of Russia; two international transport corridors go through its territory.
Among regions of the Southern Federal District Krasnodar Region holds the second place regarding number of enterprises of all patterns of ownership and is leading in terms of volume of production output and in terms of retail trade turnover.
Territory, thousand - 76 square kilometers.
Permanent residents, thousand - 506.6 people - that is 3.5% of the total population of the country.
For several years region's economy has lasting tendency of dynamic development. In some cases growth rate exceeds average country growth rate. Thus, agro industrial complex of Krasnodar Region is the biggest producer and supplier of agricultural products and raw materials. Almost a quarter of all the employed people of the Region work in agricultural industry. Total area of agricultural lands is 4.5 million hectares, including 3.9 million hectares of tillage, 74 thousand hectares of orchards and 34 thousand hectares of vineyards. Most of Russian grapes, tea and citrus plants are grown in Kuban.
